It is precisely because we care so much about nature that we at the Niedermair do not want to work against it. We take care to adopt sustainable practices and to preserve the environment for the future.

Many small steps

Our sustainable hotel near Meran was converted using organic construction methods, with natural materials clearly setting the tone. From the storeroom to the minibar, everything is filled with products from the surrounding area. And, in terms of energy, the tone is also green: we have enlarged the photovoltaic and solar heating systems and installed a biomass heating plant.

We cover 35%

of our electricity needs with our recently expanded photovoltaic system.

Since 1997

We have been heating using wood pellets since 1997. And our solar heating system compensates for 20% of our consumption.

We build on what nature provides

The hotel’s 2009 extension is certified as “Climate House Class A” thanks to its acoustic insulation, wide-ranging use of regional materials and efficient environmental management. The latest major conversion, in 2024-25, also employed organic construction methods, with great attention both to detail and to nature.

The sun: our driving force

We are so lucky with our panoramic location, with sunshine from dawn to dusk! All that sun is not just a bonus for you: it additionally means that our photovoltaic and solar heating systems can produce clean energy. We also have a biomass heating plant and, since 2021, we have been operating our own combined heat and power plant.

Produce from the surrounding area

If we have a choice, we go local

When purchasing, we prioritise the product over the price – and we like it to be organic. We very much like to know where the food in our hotel kitchen and minibar comes from. We are pleased to give preference to local farmers and suppliers, while we even grow some of our own herbs, vegetables and organic wines.

We look at the big picture

Sustainability starts with the little things and will only succeed if we look at the big picture. In our sustainable hotel near Meran, we avoid the use of paper and plastic; we have been using certified environmentally friendly cleaning products since 2015; we promote ecological mobility with our E-charging station; and we respect the social aspects, pursuing accessibility and solidarity at the local level.
